Get Ready for Autumn - How to make the most of the cosiest season!
With the Summer now behind us we already find ourselves halfway through September which means if you haven't already, it's high time you thought about all the best ways that you can get ready for Autumn!
A blog by Verity (@mummasparks)
Want to know how to live your best Autumn-life? Whether this time of year is your favourite or if you simply prefer another season altogether, there are so many different things you can do to get ready and enjoy the best that Autumn has to offer. Here are a few of my favourites!
Enjoy the great outdoors
Living in the countryside, you'll often find Tilly and myself enjoying the cool air and woody smells as we explore the landscape around us, looking for our favourite insects and animals. Our 'Bear Hunts' are more often than not a 'Bunny Hunt', 'Cow Hunt' or sometimes even a 'Woodpecker Hunt' as we try to spot our favourite creatures. In Autumn, the added joy of wading through golden leaves, throwing them up in the air and letting them rain down on our heads or scrunching them under our welly boots makes it extra special. We could spend hours and hours out there so it's a good idea to wrap up warm and cosy with a nice scarf. My Mum, Deborah (@nannasparks) is still taking her Summer Hammam out with her to wrap herself in, which is a great idea!
Harvest your favourite fruits and vegetables
Our home was previously owned by someone who loved to garden and grow their own food so we have inherited a number of fruit trees and bushes which makes us feel really lucky. But what if you don't have these in your garden, or perhaps you don't even have a garden at all? You'll be surprised how easy it is to find blackberries, elderberries and sloe bushes (gin, anyone?) a short distance from home. Mum has apple trees in her garden and has been collecting windfalls to make some delicious puddings all while wearing her linen cross back apron. She wears it all the time around the house these days. If fruits aren't your favourite why not visit a pumpkin patch and choose your own, either to eat or to make a lantern with?
Bake yourself happy
With seasonal fruits and vegetables in abundance right now, take a morning or afternoon to bake a delicious pie or dinner for your loved ones. This pumpkin pie recipe is delicious and gluten-free too, which means I can eat as much as I want! Of course, if you're baking you'll want to protect your clothes with a good apron. "If you're wearing it, it should look good, whatever it is" and that includes aprons too, so why not throw on a beautiful personalised one like this Botanical Pocket Apron which is printed in a perfect seasonal metallic copper?
Sprinkle some Autumn magic around the home
Decorating your home for Autumn has become very popular over the past couple of years and with the season only being a matter of a few months, finding key pieces that are quick to swap in and out, make the whole thing really easy to do. This YouTube video by @brummymummyof2 is filled with lots of ideas and tips for where to find things. I'm thinking about getting some more of our photo hoops, with some really pretty photos that remind me of fun times we've had in previous Autumn seasons gone-by. As they're exactly the same shape and size as the ones we already have, and they simply hang by their cord, I can change them over in seconds!
Twinning in the cosiest style
In Summer, twinning with your daughter is all about matching sundresses but in Autumn, warm and cosy jumpers are where it's at! I can not think of a better time to grab this matching set and whether we're snuggled on the sofa watching a movie or playing in the park, we'll be looking like the unstoppable Mother-Daughter-Girl-Crew that we are. Looking good and staying warm, that's how you do it.
So there we have it! These are my suggestions for some great ways to get ready for Autumn. If you've got any tips of your own, I'd love to hear all about it so why not leave me a comment at the bottom?
