Pine Cone Firestarters - Christmas Craft

Here’s what you will need to make them:

A few dry pine cones

Candle wick

200g of white beeswax

An empty, washed food can

Some tape

A pan filled with a little water

Tongs

Method:

Starting at the top, weave the candle wick around the pine cone. Make sure you push the wick securely inside and tie off at the bottom.

Carefully tape off the top of the can for safety and pour in the white beeswax, do not over-fill the can. Fill to a maximum of half way.

Fill your pan with water until about 1-2 inches deep to create a bain-marie, standing the can inside. Heat the pan gently on the hob to slowly melt the wax. Stir carefully and continuously to help the process along.

Remove the pan from the heat and dip the pine cones in to the melted wax. Using tongs, agitate the can and turn the pine cone to coat with 2-3 thin layers of wax. Leave the cone to set between each layer, this should only take about 1-2 minutes each time.

Your cones are now ready to be lit and used to start the prefect Christmas open fire!
