Halloween Pumpkin Hunt

As part of our Halloween celebrations we wanted to create something fun and interactive for the Sparks little ones. Nanna Sparks' garden has plenty of space, filled with trees and plants making it perfect for a Halloween pumpkin hunt. What is a pumpkin hun? Well, simply put, it's the spooky version of an Easter Egg Hunt and is a great way for smaller children to enjoy 'Trick-or-Treat' fun, without having to leave home.

Because Jesse has a dairy, egg and soya allergy, we wanted to include treats that he could enjoy so we made pumpkins that included both dairy-free chocolate and as a healthy alternative, blueberries.

Here's how we created the 'Great Sparks Halloween Pumpkin Hunt'!

You will need:

Orange Tissue Paper

Green Washi Tape (or pipe cleaners)

Treats to fill the pumpkins (we used dairy-free chocolate and blueberries)

Some clementines or satsumas

A black sharpie marker

Using a plate, we traced and cut out circular shapes to form the outside of our pumpkins. We then filled the centre of each circle with a few treats and brought up all of the edges of the tissue paper to the top, scrunching them up and enclosing the treats to create the 'stalk' of each pumpkin.

The tops were then secured with the washi tape to keep the treats inside. We also decorated some clementines, using the sharpie, and drew 'Jack-O-Lantern' faces on them

With the children occupied elsewhere, we hid the treats around the garden, carefully making sure there would be no need for them to climb up on anything unsafe in order to reach them. Then it was time for the hunt to begin!

We gave both Tilly and Jesse their own personalised Pumpkin Trick or Treat Bag to collect their treats. The hunt was a huge success and they had so much fun running around the garden, searching for their pumpkins! They even worked as a little team, helping each other to find and reach the treats together.
