Sparks Christmas Crafts - Pine Cone Garland

Have you begun decorating your home for Christmas yet? Decorations are easy enough to buy from the shops but it's always nice to include a few statement pieces that are handmade and yet elegant. Pine cones are usually abundant when you take a walk through the woods at this time of year, or you can buy them online.

This pinecone garland is so simple to make and is a very pretty decorative item that looks great from early autumn, right through Christmas and into the New Year. Here's how it's made:

You will need:

A selection of medium-sized pine cones

A pack of small eyelet screws

String

Tools: Scissors, a screw or bradawl

Take one of the eyelet screws and begin twisting it into the bottom of the pine cone. It can be a little tricky at first but becomes easier as it starts to take hold.

If it gets a little hard to twist with your fingers, use a screw of bradawl. Slip it through the eyelet and use it as a lever to twist the screw in fully.

Once all your pine cones have had their eyelets fitted, cut your string into one very long piece (you can always trim it down later) and slip it through the first cone. Make a small knot, or wrap the string around a few times. How you decide to tie it on the string is up to you, a knot will fix it in place and wrapping the string will allow you to slide the pine cone up and down to re-position if necessary.

Once all of you pine cones have been added to the string, the finished garland is ready to hang!
