Halloween Craft for Kids - Make a Spooky Wall Hanging

With October the 31st not far away now, finding a suitable Halloween craft for kids that also doubles up as a spooky touch of festive decor, is ideal to celebrate all things creepy at home! This do-it-yourself activity will help your little ones to develop fine motor skills, as well as other basic craft skills like tracing, glueing and cutting. It's highly likely that you'll have many of the materials needed in your home already and with the number one item on the list being a lovely big branch, you'll have the perfect excuse for a family walk in the Autumn air.

This Halloween craft for kids should only take a short time to put together and can easily be completed in a morning or afternoon. You can incorporate all kinds of shapes and materials to customise your design and don't be afraid to show off your creative skills. So with all that being said, it's time to get spooky!

To create your own spooky wall hanging you will need:

A wooden branch

Black card

Scissors

Glue

Glue gun

Printed or hand-drawn Halloween shapes

Lolly sticks

Halloween decorations - we used pretend spiders

Glitter

Ribbons & string

First, we made our Spider webs. We painted some clear glue onto one side of the lolly sticks and dipped them in the glitter to make them sparkle.

When they had dried, three sticks were arranged on top of one another, as a six-pointed star and glued in the centre to secure, using the glue gun.

Then, with a long piece of string attached to the centre-back, we carefully wound it around each of the points, working its way out to the edge. The string was secured at the end of the last point with a long 'tail' leftover, to hang it by. A spider was then glued to the front of each web we'd made.

Next up, we wanted some spooky shapes to hang too. We used some silhouettes we'd found online and printed onto paper, tracing around each of them and cutting them out of the black card. A white colouring pencil makes this much easier than a normal pencil!

Once we had all our decorative pieces, we hung each of them from the branch using different ribbons and strings. We then hung the branch on the wall and we think you'll agree it looks quite effective. Tilly certainly seemed to think so! Why not have a go yourself?
