We Predict the Top Baby Names you need to know in 2020

Having been in the business of creating thoughtful gifts for all kinds of family celebrations for the past 12 years, it's fair to say that we've seen our fair share of baby names come and go in popularity. While some names remain consistently popular, from year to year there are those names that climb the list quickly or even seem to appear out of nowhere.

Naturally, social media and the entertainment industry continue to influence many choices for names but there's also a trend for even more of our favourite traditional names coming through too.

We've taken a look at the highest climbing names from the past year because we predict these will be amongst some of the most popular, as we look ahead to the rest of 2020.

Girls Names

There were more changes to the most popular girls' names over the past 12 months with some climbing around 20-30 places. The standout name amongst them all, however, was Ada which climbed a huge 61 places and seems to owe its change in position to the television Peaky Blinders.

Emilia seems to be a more modern version of Amelia which has been a favourite in the UK for the past 20 years or more. Though new to Britain, this name has roots in European culture.

Boys Names

While there was less change amongst the boys' names over the last year, there has definitely been a swing towards formal and old-fashioned names. One of the more traditional names coming through and the highest climbing choice for boys in 2019 was Theodore, which went up by 26 places. This name not only sounds beautiful as it is, it can also be shortened to the equally adorable Ted or Teddy.
