Valentines Day Notes of Love for Your Little Ones

Valentines Day notes of love aren't just for couples, you know. Their sweet, simple form shares enormous helpings of love and admiration for anyone who needs to know just how you feel about them. As a parent, I am always looking for an opportunity to teach my daughter Tilly, new ways to be kind and thoughtful towards others and a celebration like Valentines Day does exactly that.

We've talked about what Valentine's Day is all about, in the traditional sense at least. It's tricky to know eactly how much you tell a four-year-old bout romantic love, thankfully just knowing it's like how 'Mummy and Daddy love each other' seems to be satisfactory to her for now. However, it's important to me that she learns about all the different kinds of love there are, whether that's how we love our friends, our grandparents, even our pets, too. I also think it's a great opportunity to learn about self-love too. I want her to see herself in a positive light and place her self-worth in the things that matter most, one very important part of that being how she loves and treats others.

So, when I read about how parents were sharing little notes of love with their little ones to celebrate Valentines day, I knew I wanted to make some of my own. Feeling inspired, I made them into a free printable for you to download for free and print off at home. If you don't have a printer you could always make your own out of coloured paper.

To make your Valentines Day Notes of Love you will need:

Our FREE printable template or some sheets of coloured paper

A marker pen

A pair of scissors

(A cup of tea and a piece of cake are optional but highly recommended)

If you're using your own sheets of coloured paper, fold in half and use a pencil to draw half a heart along the fold and cut out with the scissors to create a symmetrical-shaped heart.

Using the pen, write a small note on each heart to tell your little one something you love about them.

When you have written out all the notes you want to create, cut them out with the scissors.

Keep the notes somewhere safe and in the days that lead up to Valentines Day, stick them up somewhere in the home, one at a time. That way, each morning when your little one wakes up, they can discover a new note of love and affirmation each day. You can stick them to their bedroom door, on the window or the kitchen cupboards. You could even pop them into a snack or lunch boxes for them to read at school.

This activity not only teaches them to show those they love kindness and affirmation, but it also reminds them of the things that make them truly special.
